Environmental clearance was given by the government on 30 July 2014. After the announcement of this project, many companies have shown interest in the project. Dholera Metro City has acquired large land parcels for its upcoming mega parks and residential townships, Singapore-based Capital & Investment Trust through its Indian arm AGC. 3000 acres of land has been acquired within Dholera SIR to develop state-of-the-art logistics hubs. Mahindra Lifespace Developers Limited (MLDL), the real estate and infrastructure development arm of the Mahindra Group, plans to develop a business city in the Mahindra World City format in the 3000-acre Dholera Special Investment Region.
British infrastructure development Halcrow was contracted as a master planner. Cisco and IBM got the contract to develop Dholera as a smart city. This means, Dholera SIR will have a centralized digital control of all the basic facilities like water, electricity and gas traffic through the central control room through underground sensor reporting system.
Dholera International Airport
Dholera Airport is an approved airport in Gujarat India. The greenfield airport will be built near Nawagam in Dholera taluka of Ahmedabad district. The project site is spread over 1,426 hectares near village Nawagam in Dholera taluka (earlier it was in Dhandhuka taluka), approximately from kilometers from Ahmedabad and about 20 kilometers from Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR). The state government has formed Dholera International Airport Company Limited (DIACL) as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the development of the airport. Work at the airport is expected to begin in 2019, and it is expected to be operational by 2022. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government in January 2019 for the construction of the airport.
Dholera SIR Development
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) inspected the site in January 2010 to conduct a techno-economic feasibility study and received its technical approval the following month. The project received “site clearance” from the central government in July 2014. [clearance] The Ministry of Environment approved it in December 2015.
The airport will be jointly developed by Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC) and the Government of Gujarat and will cater to the logistics requirements of the upcoming Dholera Special Investment Region.
