India: The Centre will develop smart cities in the newly-formed India.

Working on a home ministry proposal to improve infrastructure and generate job opportunities in India, the ministry has formed a mission under Smart Cities to guide the smart cities in formulating detailed projects reports for some of the cities.

The move is part of the Centre’s initiative to develop smart cities in future.

Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June 2015, the Smart City Mission includes 100 cities that were selected through a competitive process, which involved presenting an urban infrastructure upgrade plan.
